A 16-year-old transgender student is petitioning Hekia Parata and Marlborough Girls’ College because she is being made to use the male bathrooms or gender neutral bathrooms while at school. Her petition is less than 1000 signatures away from reaching the 7,500 it needs to be delivered. Stefani Rose Muollo-Gray says that she has attended Marlborough Girl’s College for the past year and a half and for all of this time she has used the female bathrooms however was recently pulled up about this by her Dean who “used transphobic language and ideas.” She writes in her petition “They kept trying to tell me that I couldn’t use the girls’ bathrooms because it was all about everyone’s comfort and safety, as though anyone was at risk from me just trying to use the bathroom.” “Aside from this I want to get across is how blatantly transphobic the school has been against me and how upsetting this whole situation has been. There is no need to worry about other students safety in this situation. It is me who has been forced to stop using certain bathrooms; interrupting my learning and my school day.” To sign the petition and help Muollo-Gray reach 7500 signatures, click here.
