NZ rushes to fundraise for Orlando, USA

After the devastating gay nightclub shooting in Orlando, LGBTI people from around the country are rushing to assist and events are being organised to raise money for the victims. In Auckland and Wellington in particular members of the LGBTI community are pulling out all stops to support the families of those who lost their lives in Orlando and those who were injured. Urge is hosting a special dance party on June 25 at the Dog's Bollix. “The event is our way to stand tall and stand proud - to say we are gay and we ain't going anywhere,” says Alan Granville of Urge. “This is a night to embrace, to let go, and just dance.” Urge staff will be behind the bar and they have their legendary DJs lined up to play. “This is also a fundraiser and money raised will go the the givealittle fund to aid the families of those tragically affected by the weekend's shooting, and also to New Zealand's OUTLine.” All staff and DJs are donating their time for free and there will be some free nibbles donated by the Dogs Bollix. Urge will also be holding a raffle and if any businesses want to donate prizes they can email alangranville@hotmail.com Free entry but the guys will be asking for money throughout the night. Urge for Orlando and OUTLine Saturday, June 25, 9pm The Dogs Bollix Two variety show fundraisers are to be held at Fringe Bar in Wellington to raise money for the victims of the Orlando mass shooting. Ladyfruit at Out in the Park The first performers announced are Te Kahureremoa aka Lady Fruit and comedian Molly who’s known for her deadpan delivery, comedic timing and soft Californian accent. Ladyfruit says "In the wake of the horrific events that rocked Orlando over the weekend, Duncan Hope decided that he wanted to respond with aroha and kotahitanga - which is freaking beautiful! So he sent out the karanga and heaps of people responded! And here you have it - A variety show. "You should come watch and buy a ticket coz the money raised will go to the gofundme page set up for victims and their families." The shows will have a wide range of performers from poets and dancers, to comedians, singers and burlesque performers. Check out the Facebook events, here and here. Orlando, We Love You: A Variety Show Part One Friday 22 July and Sunday 24 July Tickets on sale at eventfinda Ivy Bar is also holding a fundraiser for Orlando victims on Sunday 19 June, from 7pm-10pm Hosted by Mx Capital Drag 2016 Stephii Onassiss, Ivy bar will be fundraising for Orlando with Pulse in Heart. Tickets are $10 and $5 for students on the door (cash only) there will also be donation buckets going around for anyone who wants to give extra.
