Wed 15 Jun 2016 In: International News View at Wayback

Sheikh Farrokh Sekaleshfar A visiting British Muslim cleric who preached in Orlando earlier this year has left Australia after his visa came under urgent review for his promotion of the death penalty for gay men. Farrokh Sekaleshfar said in a videoed lecture in Michigan in 2013 that in an Islamic society, the death penalty should be carried out for homosexuals. "Out of compassion, let's get rid of him now, because he's contaminating society." With the Orlando massacre in mind and looking back on that lecture, Sekaleshfar has defending himself, saying he "wasn't inciting, nor saying to everyone to kill homosexuals, that it's open to everyone to do that, that's not the case." Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has told reporters he has "zero tolerance for people to come to Australia who preach hatred."
