LGBTI touch team honour Orlando victims at game

Wed 15 Jun 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

An LGBTI touch team in Auckland observed a minutes silence before their game on Monday night and wore black arm bands to show their respect following the mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando.   The captain of the JX Chargers, Emma Cumming says “We decided as a team that we would show our respect for those that lost their lives by wearing black arm bands and have a minutes silence before the game. We also painted the rainbow flag on ourselves using face paint.” She says “Just when you think society is becoming more accepting to the LGBTI community an awful event like this occurs. “I really feel for those in America and now it feels like acceptance has just taken a major step back. What we did on Monday night was the least we could do to show our respect.” The team play’s at St Peters and Victoria Park in Central Auckland and is sponsored by JX Live.
