A candlelight vigil is being organised in Auckland for locals to pay their respects and gather together as a community following the horrific mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando where 50 people were killed and a further 53 injured. A vigil, organised by Paul Heard, Karen Ritchie and Josh Aarons, is being planned for this evening, 6pm at Western Park in Ponsonby, with permission from the Auckland Council. "Anyone who would like to show their support are welcome bring along a candle and any LGBTIQ flags banners etc to show support and I will be supplying 200 tea light candles and the event will be at 6pm," says co-organiser Laine. An event was planned for 6pm at Aotea Square and a Facebook page created for this event but this has not been approved by the Auckland Council and may not go ahead. GayNZ.com will keep you updated with details of the vigil as they are announced. You can stay in touch with the unfolding tragedy and its aftermath in GayNZ.com's Live rolling coverage here.
