Glamaphones to hold HLR concert series

Sat 4 Jun 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

The Glamaphones are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Homosexual Law Reform with a concert series.   Musical Director Rachel Hyde says "We will be performing a very special programme of music to celebrate the milestone moment in 1986.” The group will first perform at St Andrews on the Terrace and then head to Paekakariki and perform at St Peters Village Hall. The programme will feature archival material from the Lesbian Gay Archives of New Zealand, and a new commission from renowned Wellington composer Gareth Farr, who says the work is "a reminder of the hurt that was done; that helpless and desperate times are an integral part of any political struggle. ”However - it’s not all doom and gloom - the bottom line in this piece is that love conquers all.” Hyde says "These concerts will span a spectrum of emotions. Our songs will be a celebration, and also focus on the themes of hope and courage, looking back at the bravery of those who campaigned for the cause. "Yet we do not forget that the struggle is ongoing. We will also perform music to acknowledge the discrimination that LGBTQI people continue to face around the world."
