Second AKL Pride hui takes place tonight

Wed 1 Jun 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

The second Auckland Pride Festival Community Hui takes place tonight, a chance for the public to have their say and hear about developments in the organisation.   The Auckland Pride Board invite members of the public to share their feedback tonight at Studio One Toi Tū in Ponsonby. Auckland Pride Festival co-chair Kirsten Sibbit says “We felt that the first hui went really well. It was great to see a group of engaged people and to be able to continue the conversation from last year." Sibbit says the mood on Saturday was good - constructive and passionate but respectful. "We covered a wide range of topics including an update on the outcomes from the 2016 event and some progress on 2017," she says. "Broadly the discussion focused on the Festival and the Parade. Festival topics discussed included conflicting events, geographical spread, diversifying events and including more social events, more events for certain parts of the community (lesbian, transgender) and better awareness of how to get involved and support to get involved. "On the Parade, we covered corporate involvement and corporates pairing up with community groups, who is entitled to march and protest action. "We look forward to tonight's discussion and getting some more feedback.  With access to the people delivering one of Auckland’s biggest LGBTI events, the evening will also shed light on the future plans of the organisation.
