Safe Schools leader resigns after saying flag is "racist"

Wed 1 Jun 2016 In: International News View at Wayback

Australia’s Safe Schools Coalition co-founder has stepped down from her role within a Victorian Government task force after declaring the Australian flag to be “racist”.   Roz Ward made the comments on her private Facebook page after Victoria’s Parliament raised the rainbow flag to celebrate the apology made by Premier Daniel Andrews to men who were convicted under the states historic homosexual convictions laws. Ward wrote on Facebook “Now we just need to get rid of the racist Australian flag on top of state parliament and get a red one up there and my work is done”. Her comments came under fire from ring-winger commentators. She has since resigned from her position within a Victorian Government taskforce group. Ward apologised for her comments on Facebook, telling news.com.au “I apologise for any offence that comments, posted on my private Facebook page, may have caused the government and members of the LGBTI community. “These were private comments that were never intended for the public domain.
