Auckland gay couple return home with 'triplings'

Sun 8 May 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

The Auckland gay couple who were having difficulty returning home from Mexico with their ‘triplings’, have arrived back in New Zealand.   The triplings David and Nicky beard say they were desperately searching for a way to bring home the children who were born to two different surrogates in Mexico. Stuff reports that the couple are now living “in a “spacious five-bedroom ‘designer oasis’ in Titirangi, purchased for $1.4m” by David Beard after he sold his Freemans bay home for $1.6m in October. It also reveals that Beard’s mother had previously transferred $114,000 from her son’s business account to fund a gambling problem according to a report to the Gambling Compliance Advisory Group. Beard had being attempting to claim back the money from the gaming venue his mother attended, stating that the club was not a responsible host, allowing his mother to spend up to five hours a day on the poke machines. In March 2015, he publicly released a report to the Gambling Compliance Advisory Group to help publicly explain some of his family’s financial challenges, reports Stuff. A Give a Little crowdfunding page was set up by a friend of the couple to help with the costs of bringing the babies back to New Zealand after the couple shared that the premature birth of their son, and problems with their adoption agency left them out of pocket. The couple's lawyer had spoken out after the couple made their story public and told The Guardian that the "truth isn't all there." The couple say they have signed an exclusive media deal and will not be speaking outside of this.
