A stalwart of the Wellington gay scene for a number of years, Phil Smees, has died in Brisbane. Smees was particularly well known for his bar Caspers which operated in the early '90s and was involved in a number of the capital's community groups. He was a founding member of GAP, Wellington's gay business group.
