New initiative brings together WLG youth services

A new collaboration between Wellington’s gender and sexuality diverse youth support organisations is launching and hosting an information evening next week. The OuterSpaces meet and greet is an opportunity for members of the public to learn more about the new initiative, about support that is offered and groups that are available to attend. A collaboration between School’s Out, Tranzform and Naming NZ, the information evening will be held at the Evolve Youth Services centre and anyone interested in volunteering would be more than welcome to attend. Schools Out is an afters school group for young people for are LGBTI or questioning and meet every week for discussions, fun and games and free food. Tranzform is a support group for youth who identify as transgender, fa'afafine, whakawahine, tangata ira tane, intersex, two-spirits, genderqueer, non-gendered, questioning and their allies. They meet fortnightly in Wellington for discussion, information, food and frivolity and Naming NZ is an organisation that has been set up to help trans, intersex and gender diverse youth update their identity documents to correctly reflect their sex and gender. Leaders from the various groups and board members will be speaking on the night and it is hoped that the informative evening will also be a chance for networking and community building.
