Coalition push against UN LGBTI acceptance

Tue 3 May 2016 In: International News View at Wayback

A new anti-LGBTI coalition group aims to unite similar organisations from around the world and “explicitly push back against UN entities attempting to redefine the family to include same-sex relations.”   The group Civil Society for the Family, has been set up by the Centre for Family and Human Rights, and invites anti-LGBTI groups to sign up to their online platform if they agree with The Family Articles. The Family Articles are a set of principles held by the coalition and state things such as “Relations between individuals of the same sex and other social and legal arrangements that are neither equivalent nor analogous to the family are not entitled to the protections singularly reserved for the family in international law and policy.” Another Article reads “Any mention of the family in UN resolutions and conference outcomes can only be interpreted in reference to a man and a woman united in marriage, and relations that are equivalent or analogous, including single parent families and multigenerational families.” The coalition believes the international status and recognition of social and legal arrangements between same-sex couples “in the context of the United Nations has led to confusion and acrimony in international negotiations on the subject of the family.”
