Hundreds of haircuts benefit Herne Bay House

Tue 25 Feb 2003 In: New Zealand Daily News

304 haircuts donated by twenty two Auckland hair salons have raised over $24,000 for Herne Bay House. When the proceeds of the Herne Bay House Hair Event are combined with the proceeds from the Heroic Gardens garden tour HBH has received just on $70,000 from events run concurrently with the Hero Festival 2003. Patricia Bell of the Auckland City Mission which owns and administers HBH, New Zealand's only residential care facility for people with HIV and their caregivers, says queues of people waiting for their Haircuts at the Town Hall venue were “quite long” but entertainment and spot prizes helped pass the time, and TV personalities Mark Fergusson, Bruce Hopkins and Rebecca Hobbs, along with drag divas Queens Onya Nees, Miss Chardonnay, Miss Cellaneous and Rosebush “did a wonderful job of keeping the hairdressers motivated and the crowd entertained. Bell has paid tribute to regular sponsors KMS who provided hair product and volunteer staff for the day-long event.
