Theatre show to raise funds for RY

Tue 26 Apr 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

A special performance of the comedy theatre show Move Over Mrs Markham is being organised in Auckland, with proceeds from the show going towards helping LGBTI youth. Auckland man Sean Dwyer is organising the fundraiser show in Auckland next month and says his own life experiences have led him to become passionate about making sure that young people know who they are from an early age. Fundraising for LGBTI youth advocacy and support organisation RainbowYOUTH, he says “I came out late in life (50 years old) and it was something that my children just couldn't handle and as a result I've not seen or heard from them in 19 months - it's been a very heartbreaking experience for me and I know I'm not alone as others have suffered the same fate.” The show is about Philip Markham, a straight-laced London publisher who agrees to let his business partner Henry Lodge borrow his apartment for the evening to "entertain" his latest girlfriend. At the same time, Joanna Markham is persuaded by Linda Lodge to let her borrow the apartment, so she can “entertain” her lover. What nobody knows is that the interior designer who has been decorating the apartment for the past three months has decided that this was the night he and the au pair would try out the new oval bed. The Markham’s are delayed in leaving the apartment as Olive Harriet Smythe (a no-sex-please very successful but very conservative author of children’s books) has unexpectedly arrived looking for a new publisher, so when all three couples converge on the apartment, expecting to find it empty, the ultimate in chaos, confusion and madcap hilarity ensues. Tickets for the show can be bought by emailing Dwyer at seandwyer1000@gmail.com. Wednesday 25 May, 8pm Rose Centre, School Road, Balmont Tickets: $30 including nibbles provided by The Coffee Club
