Mr Gay World 2012, New Zealand’s own Andreas Derleth, will be the celebrity judge for this year's competition which kicks off today in Malta.   Welcoming Derleth back, organisers say “Mr Derleth has experienced the competition himself as the New Zealand delegate four years ago and delivered a successful reign as title holder. Due to his experience he will do great as a judge who understands what it takes to win and bear the title.” Derleth shared the news on Facebook and says "Feeling humbled and honoured to be part of the jury for selecting the next global leader for the advancement and promotion of gay rights and acceptance. For me the individual interviews with the jury are always the most important part as it reveals motives, characteristics and whether or not a candidate can engage a group of people positively and answer questions wisely.” Derleth grew up in Germany but has made New Zealand his home after coming over for a working holiday and falling in love with the country. In his first week here the former altar boy was asked to be a promo model at the Hero Party, and was introduced to Auckland’s gay scene wearing nothing but black and gold underwear. The Mr Gay World 2016 competition runs from 19-23 April and Mr Gay NZ Bernard Lee is running for this year’s title. You can watch the live stream of the final at 5am 23 April New Zealand time.
