A new Wellington-based project aims to provide free chest binders for young people in need. Chest binder from my Double Design The Wellington Binder Exchange aims to provide binders to youth who may not otherwise have the ability to access them. Coordinator of the exchange, Charles Prout, says the binders will be sourced through donations and this service aims to fill a service gap for transmasculine youth in Wellington. “Binders are important part of the transition process,” says Prout who explains that binders are only available online from overseas and can be difficult to obtain in New Zealand. The binders will be stored at Evolve Wellington Youth Service and organisers are currently calling for donations of used binders that are still in good condition. A drop in session every second Wednesday from April 13 will allow young people to stop in and pick up a binder if they are in need. “We look forward to working together with Evolve Wellington Youth Service and the Capital and Coast DHB to improve services for trans youth and assist in the development of care pathways,” says Prout. Anyone wishing to donate a binder can contact Prout at wellingtonbinderexchange@gmail.com
