Mon 4 Apr 2016 In: International News View at Wayback View at NDHA

MTV show, Faking It has become the first TV show ever to feature an intersex actor playing an intersex character. The new character, Raven, played by Amanda Saenz is a youth advocate who helps to connect another intersex character, Lauren, with the intersex community. Saenz says, “Walking onto a studio set was perhaps one of the more surreal things that I’ve done in my life. “I’m so excited that the intersex community is growing more and more visible, and that our movement is building momentum.” Faking It creator Carter Covington consulted with intersex advocacy group interACT when writing the story line for the first intersex character on the show, Lauren. Saenz says, “Being portrayed in an honest fashion is something that we have been fighting for for a long time.” The episode screens on 5 April in the US.
