YouTube superstar and LGBTI advocate, Tyler Oakley is coming to New Zealand. Performing for fans as part of the#AmplifyLIVE 2016 festival in Auckland and Wellington this April, this will be the first time Oakley has journeyed to our shores. Oakley first started making videos in 2007 and since then has addressed LGBTI youth suicide, LGBTI rights and queer politics alongside humorous videos. The openly gay social media star will join a vast lineup of talented young stars including Jamie Curry and Kian for the festival which describes itself as “for the connected generation”. With more than 22 million followers across his social media platforms, including 8 million on YouTube, Tyler was named by TIME Magazine as one of the “30 Most Influential People on the Internet”. Tom Maynard, creator of AMPLIFY, says “We’re ecstatic to bring #AmplifyLIVE to NZ for the first time. Amplify is one of the only brands that allows youth across NZ and Australia to get up close and personal with their heroes and we cant wait to involve our Kiwi audiences.”
