The first ever trans actor to play the role of a trans character in a long running storyline will make his debut tonight on New Zealand’s longest running drama Shortland Street. Tash Keddy will play Blue, who he describes as “a very strong independent” character who can be “pretty feisty sometimes, but deep down - is really lovable”. A student at Elam School of Fine Arts, this will be Keddy’s first acting role. “I am loving the opportunity to tell Blue's story. I am sure it will strike a chord with so many people. If I can tell the story truthfully and help with the exposure of transgender narratives to educate, I have done my job,” the young actor says. “We have the chance with this storyline to give a voice to a part of our community, that until recently, has been misrepresented or ignored,” says Shortland Street Producer Maxine Flemming. Shortland Street hired Auckland writer, actor, director, artist and activist Cole Meyers to consult in relation to the storyline.
