1.00PM: An estimated 1,500 people, mostly glbti, have gathered under the blazing sun at Wellington's waterfront Waitangi Park for the annual Out in the Park fair and picnic day. The event is the culmination of the Wellington Pride Festival which kicked off last Saturday with a ceremony at parliament which also acknowledged three decades since the ground-breaking Homosexual Law reform legislation came into force. This morning's festivities started with a parade along the waterfront from Frank Kits Park and Christchurch visitor Lisa Keeting, originally from Wellington says she was bowled over by the diversity and energy of the walking parade. I wanted to be part of this so I just showed up with my pompoms and got into the vibe of it all," she says. Now at Waitangi park she feels it's a very glbti-centred event with people of all ages and cultures enjoying the entertainment, sun and food. "It's so good to see old gay couples, our young folk, drag queens, everyone having such fun." The food and drink stalls are doing a roaring trade and singers, street art performances and drag shows have been entertaining everyone from the rainbow stage.
