Young gay comedian nominated for Billy T Award

Sun 13 Mar 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback View at NDHA

James Malcolm has been nominated for the Billy T Award, New Zealand’s most prestigious comedy award.   The only openly LGBTI nominee this year, Malcolm says a lot of his comedy centres around his sexuality, “I actually came out on stage,” he says. The 20-year-old Wellingtonian comedian was the winner of the 2014 national Raw Comedy Quest and has featured on television’s AotearoHA Rising Stars. Malcolm’s show, Marry Me Chris Warner, as part of the NZ International Comedy Festival this May will be judged and be the deciding factor as to whether he wins the Billy T Award. Having admired Shortland Street’s Chris Warner since the days he first laid eyes on him, Malcolm is now seizing the opportunity to stage an elaborate on stage wedding with ‘Doctor Love’. Marry Me Chris Warner runs from 3-7 May in Wellington and 10-14 May in Auckland.
