Aus PM and opposition attend Sydney Mardi Gras

Malcolm Turnbull became the first ever Australian Prime Minister to attend the Sydney Mardi Gras festivities over the weekend. Photo thanks to Same Same. Turnbull has attended the Mardi Gras Parade in the past however this is the first time he has attended in his role as leader of the country. The event takes place in Turnbull’s electorate, Wentworth, and the 38th parade this year was the biggest in history with 178 floats, 12,500 participants and an estimated crowd of 300,000 onlookers. The Australian Prime Minister was situated on the balcony at Kinselas Hotel and went down into the crowds with his wife for photo opportunities. The opposition leader, Bill Shorten marched in the parade with the Labor Party, who pledged their support for marriage equality.
