Wellington City Council has this afternoon raised a rainbow flag ahead of the first ever Wellington Pride Festival | | Tū whakahīhī e Te Whanganui-ā-Tara which kicks off tomorrow. Flag raised at the Wellington City Coucnil Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown says the rainbow flag was raised to mark the Wellington Pride Festival. The festival opens tomorrow night with a special grand opening event at Parliament, with 300 people expected to attend. The flag atop of the Wellington City Council building will be up for one week, being lowered next Friday. When asked whether we can expect to see rainbow flags raised on other prominent buildings around the city, the Mayor says, "That’s a question for Wellingtonians who have an opportunity to raise a rainbow flag."
