Kids Search engine: LGBTI words are "bad words"

Wed 2 Mar 2016 In: International News View at Wayback View at NDHA

A new child-friendly search engine is blocking all LGBTI related searches. The website, Kiddle, also bans any “bad words” that relate to drugs, porn and death and results are handpicked by editors or go through Google Safe Search filters. An error message reading; “‘Please realise that while Kiddle has nothing against the LGBT community, it’s hard to guarantee the safety of all the search results for such queries. We recommend that you talk to your parent or guardian about such topics”, appears when words such as gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual are searched. The search engine, which is not affiliated with Google, allows people to search in a custom Google search bar. Ateempted to shelter children from “explicit content”, the search engine still allows people to see adult content when searching subjects such as Pamela Anderson.
