Uganda will boycott next global Anglican meeting

Sat 27 Feb 2016 In: International News View at Wayback View at NDHA

The Archbishop of Uganda is unhappy with the issue of same-sex marriages within the Anglican Church and will be boycotting the next global meeting.   Last month, the US Episcopal Church was punished by the Anglican Communion for its support of same-sex marriage, however the Archbishop of Uganda says this was only a symbolic decision with no grounding. “It was only a symbolic vote; it was not a substantive vote,” says the Archbishop. “Recent statements from TEC [The Episcopal Church] and other leaders in the Anglican Communion have since made this clear. “The Presiding Bishop of stated during the Primates Meeting that TEC would not change its position on offering ‘marriage’ to same-sex couples, and he has repeated TEC’s commitment to a definition of marriage the Bible does not recognise. “In other words, the Primates decision will have no impact on TEC.” Calling it a “deep betrayal” the Archbishop says the Anglican Communion does not have the will to follow through with the “discipline”.
