Wellington Pride Festival I Tū whakahīhī e Te Whanganui-ā-Tara kicks off in one weeks time with a formal opening ceremony commemorating 30 years of homosexual law reform. Featuring speeches and stories from notable Wellingtonians who were instrumental figures in law reform, including Fran Wilde, organisers say; “It will be an evening of remembrance, celebration and looking toward an even better future for the LGBTIQ+ community.” A reflection on the state of the LGBTI community in today’s society, recognising the issues we still face and looking forward to a positive future, the speakers will present a diverse view of LGBTI life. With performances kicking off the week-long festival and held in the Banquet Hall at Parliament, this is set to be a entertaining and thought provoking evening.
