Staircase nightclub up for sale

Mon 16 Dec 2002 In: New Zealand Daily News

Auckland's Staircase nightclub is up for sale, with both the business and the building on the market. Club General Manager Gray Tinley says he and owner Terry Bennet have had” two years of fun” operating the facility but “it's now time to move on.” He says Bennet wants to consolidate his investments, concentrating on properties in Northland, while Tinley himself is just “looking for a break.” Tinley says that when the pair took on Staircase they looked forward to running a venue for the gay community but support from that quarter has been less than expected. He says straight clubbers and event organisers were the predominant clientele. A number of upcoming events have been pre-booked into Staircase and a condition of sale will be that those commitments are honoured by the new owners.
