Adidas protects LGBTI athletes in new policy

Wed 17 Feb 2016 In: International News View at Wayback View at NDHA

Adidas has shown its support for LGBTI athletes, adding a clause to its sponsorship contracts protecting athletes from loosing sponsorship deals if they come out. The clause states; “Adidas acknowledges and adheres to the principles of diversity, as this is a central part of the Adidas group philosophy.” “Therefore Adidas warrants that this agreement will neither be terminated nor modified in case the athlete comes out to the public as a member of the LGBT community.” The sportswear company signed Olympic diver Tom Daley in 2014 just weeks after he came out. Sports stars have recently found themselves scoring major endorsement deals after coming out, with American soccer star Abby Wambach, WBNA player Brittney Griner and former NFL player Michael Same all landing contracts with sportswear companies.
