Kiwi women excell in P2P road race

Judith Thompson with her gold medal Nineteen gay athletes competed in this morning's Proud to Play Road Running race with the New Zealander Judith Thompson taking the gold medal in the women's 10k race. Another Kiwi to take a medal was the very competitive Jan Cowan who won silver in the women's 5k race. Cowan made it clear to the organisers before the race started that  "I've come here to win a medal" and was as good as her word. The road race was held in the Albany Domain, on Auckland's northern fringes, this morning, part of the extensive sports competition mounted a part of the inaugural Proud To Play sports festival. P2P lead organiser Craig Watson says conditions were perfect for the race "with a nice breeze keeping things cool."
