Anti-gay law resumes in Malawi

Gay people in Malawi are under threat of arrest, as a court in the country has ordered police to resume arrests.   President of Malawi, Peter Mutharika Former president Joyce Banda a temporary prohibition on Malawi’s anti-gay law in 2012 pending a judicial review. Although the temporary prohibition was reaffirmed in December by the justice minister, three pastors were successful in challenging it’s legality and High Court judge Dingiswayo Madise has ordered that this law be resumed. The law punishes sex between men by up to 14 years in prison and the judge warned that disobeying the order would be a contempt of court.
