Stephen Bowness will perform for the last time as the conductor of GALS at the upcoming Out and Loud Festival. A part of the GALS family for 15 years, Bowness says, “The time has come for the choir to have a change.” On Saturday 20 February Bowness will conduct his last GALS performance at the Out and Loud Festival, a gathering of LGBTI choirs from around New Zealand and Australia as part of the Auckland Pride Festival. The grand matinee show will see all eight choirs performing both together and separately. Music is still very much in the future for Bowness who says, “I’m a member of the choir at the Anglican Cathedral in Parnell and we have a new Director of Music arriving next week. I’ll be doing all that I can to help him settle in.” Looking back on his time with GALS, the conductor says, “As with everything, there are ups and downs. On the whole, it’s been a great privilege. I’ve been very proud to lead the choir for a number of international events and to share the stage with them as we showcase New Zealand music to the world.”
