Trump would get US same-sex marriage nixed

Mon 1 Feb 2016 In: International News View at Wayback View at NDHA

Donald Trump campaigning Bombastic Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump says he will, if elected president, seriously consider stacking the Supreme Court to get last year's landmark decision allowing same-sex marriage in USA reversed. Trump has a narrow lead over his nearest Republican contender and his statement is widely interpreted as an attempt to conservative Christian voters in Iowa which will be the first state to decide of he gets the nod to take on the eventual Democratic contender. Trump has in the past supported civil unions for same-sex couples but has been a consistent opponent of same-sex couple benefits and marriage equality ever since. But he also told a reporter in August that the same-sex marriage decision by the Supreme Court had to stand and that anyone trying to interfere with the decision would be doing so for purely political reasons.
