No youth stepping up to organise says performer

Zakk d’Larté says when it comes to youth and the Auckland Pride Festival, people are saying they want to be more involved and have more youth events but no one is stepping forward to organise or create these events.   His comments come following the release of the Auckland Pride Festival programme, which features only three targeted youth events. “Our job is to provide support and a platform for them to share the events, not to create them,” says d’Larté. The youth events offered in the programme include two RainbowYOUTH events; Queer Cuts and an Interfaith panel, and a meet and greet at the Auckland University Queer Space. The 21 year-old designer and performer says he was hoping more people would come forward with something to offer and the team would help make it a reality, “but there was a severe lack of that, hence the one page Youth section.” “That’s not to say of course that those three things are the only things that youth can attend – there is so much to offer next month that I hope everyone gets the opportunity to attend,” he says. d’Larté says this Pride he is looking forward to checking out a range of events including the new trans-musical show; People Like Us, The Loose Dick Kiddies Show and F’ YOU!
