The Mormon Church’s new anti-gay policy was a revelation from god according to a high-ranking Mormon leader. The Pride flag flying in front of the Salt Lake Temple during a protest in November Apostle Russell M. Nelson, head of the religion's governing body and next in line for the Mormon presidency, maintains that the current President, Thomas S. Monson received instructions directly from god regarding same-sex couples. The 91 year old apostle shared his thoughts during a internationally live-streamed speech given over the weekend. A newly-updated handbook says that say that being in a same-sex marriage warrants ousting from the religion and that children of gay parents must wait until they are 18 and disavow homosexual relationships to be baptised. Hundreds of Mormon followers took to the streets of Salt Lake City in November and pledged to resign en masse from the Mormon Church following the church’s new policies that further stigmatise gay Mormons and their families.
