LGTBI gay icon David Bowie dies, aged 69

Tue 12 Jan 2016 In: Features

Legendary performer and gay icon David Bowie has passed away aged 69, after an 18-month long battle with cancer. An icon for the LGBTI community, his fluid sexuality and style was a breathe of fresh air and an inspiration for so many around the world. In the 1970’s his ultimate persona Ziggy Stardust came to life and in 1972, five years after England decriminalised homosexuality, Bowie revealed to journalist Michael Watts,“I’m gay and always have been, even when I was David Jones.” True to his ever-changing and organic persona, in 1976 he told Playboy Magazine, “It’s true – I am a bisexual”, and in 1983 he told Rolling Stone magazine that he was a “closet heterosexual”. As the world is in mourning, tributes are spread across social media, take a look at what some of our LGBTI community icons are saying: - 12th January 2016
