A transgender man says he was humiliated by airport staff in Australia who forcibly removed his prosthetic penis. The incident took place in 2015 and is now the subject of a complaint made by the National LGBTI Health Alliance to a Senate committee inquiry on airport and aviation security reports Gay Star News. The airport security staff member is said to have put on two pairs of gloves to remove the man’s penis and asked him: “You want me to touch that thing with my bare hands?” The passenger says he had to undergo a full body scan, which alerted the airport staff of his prosthetic penis. “I explained to the officer at the scanner that I am trans and that I was wearing a prosthetic, to which he responded that he would need to get his supervisor,” the passenger said. The man, who wishes not to be named, says the search was “demeaning” and “unnecessary”, he was also made to put the prosthetic back while being watched by two staff members. The findings of the investigation are to be published in May.
