The Fijian Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, says “there will be no same-sex marriage in Fiji”. Bainimarama was quoted in the Fiji Sun newspaper yesterday responding to a suggestion that Fiji should consider same-sex marriage saying: “Fiji does not need that rubbish”. The Prime Minister was responding to comments made by the head of the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre, Shamima Ali. He went on to say that this is a “topic pushed by NGOs such as hers under the issue of human rights” and if a women wishes to marry another women they should, “go and have it done in Iceland and stay and live there”.
