Academic to give prestigious lecture on LGBTI issues

Wed 23 Dec 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News

A New Zealand academic for the rights of LGBTI people is to become the first New Zealand social work scholar to deliver the Eileen Younghusband Memorial Lecture at next year’s World Social Work Conference. The most prestigious international lecture for social work educators will be delivered by Associate Professor Mark Henrickson of Massey University in Korea next year. Henrickson’s lecture will address the difficulties faced by LGBTI social workers around the world and it is believed he is the first openly gay person to be nominated for the prestigious lecture. Believing that binary language such as gay/straight and male/female is “outdated” the Associate Professor’s work is based in language and identities.
