Ak Pride co-chair will step down in March

Tue 15 Dec 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News

Vinnie Sykes The Auckland Pride Festival is to lose one of its board members with the resignation of Vinnie Sykes who came onto the board earlier this year. Sykes was one of two brand new board members who were appointed co-chairs in July. Fellow co-chair Kirsten Sibbit says Sykes is leaving due to ongoing health problems his husband has been facing. "His husband has been very ill over the past year and hasn't been recovering as fast as had been hoped," she says. "I think being on the board has taken up more time than he had anticipated and was affecting his ability to give his husband as much support as he would have liked to." Sykes has been focusing on sponsorship and securing revenue for the project and Sibbet says he has been successful in that role. "I understand he would like to continue assisting in that role but just not as a full board member." Sykes has given a three months notice of resignation which means it will take effect after the forthcoming Auckland Pride Festival. He was previously on the board of the Auckland Outgames until that body resigned en masse in August.
