Mon 7 Dec 2015 In: International News View at Wayback

Trent Zimmerman has been elected in the North Sydney bi-election, making him the first openly gay member of the Australian Lower House. With 47.6 percent of the total vote, the Liberal Party politician is the former vice-president of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Business Association and confirmed his support for same-sex marriage during his campaign. The Federal House of Representatives has never before had any openly gay MP despite several openly LGBTI representatives in the Federal Senate.
