Ara Taiohi is making a short film with young people from LGBTI communities and are currently calling for cast – all identities welcome. Anyone interested needs to be over 16, under 30 and wants to voice their opinion about how they would like to be treated in youth organisations. The film will be part of Ara Taiohi’s new Rainbow Cultural Competency Framework – and will show youth organisations – including youth health spaces, schools and other education places and youth groups – what they need to do to make their places safer for young people with diverse sexes, sexualities and gender identities. The organisation say: “We have been looking at the research, and talking to people locally, nationally and internationally about how we can make our youth places safer for Rainbow young people. “The film will be Rainbow young people talking about what being welcomed, counted, and respected and included looks like for them. “If you want to know more about the film, come meet us. We can answer your questions about safety and consent and who will see the film and how it will be used. We can also talk about options around your voice being heard without you feeling too exposed.” Filming will take place Wednesday 16th December, at Evolve Youth Service in Wellington between 11am and 2pm. Participant’s will have travel costs covered and receive a koha for their time. Info session’s will be held on Friday 11th December between 5pm – 6.30pm at Ara Taiohi, Level 3, 148 Cuba St, Wellington. Entrance is on Garrett Street.
