A Gisborne transgender women has been arrested only 11 days after being released from prison where she was serving time for similar charges.   The woman, Daytona Haenga, was recently released from prison after pleading guilty to four charges of using a document to obtain a pecuniary advantage. She now faces 18 new charges after repeat offending. During court proceedings last month, Gisborne District Court’s resident judge Warren Cathcart rejected the 29 year old’s request for a reduced sentence on grounds that her “lifestyle choice” should not give her special privileges. Haenga used an elderly woman’s eftpos card over a two day period, extracting $2038 from her account at ATM machines and was sentenced to eight months imprisonment. Haenga has been remanded in custody and did not seek bail according to the Gisborne Herald, her case was seen by Judge Tony Adeane.
