Collectors on Auckland's Queen Street last year Over two hundred volunteers are expected to be on the country's streets collecting for World AIDS Day this Friday morning. Proceeds from the collection are used by the NZ AIDS Foundation and Body Positive to help fund their support services provided to people with HIV. The NZAF half of the money is used to fund the work done by their counselling and testing centres in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The Body Positive half is put into the Wellness Fund where it is available for last resort financial assistance for HIV-positive people regardless of their gender, sexuality or location around the country. Ninety volunteers have confirmed they will help out with the collection in Auckland, with fifteen in Hamilton, fifty in Wellington, around 30 in Christchurch and ten in Dunedin . The theme for the global world AIDS Day day continues to be 'Getting to Zero,' with the NZ AIDS Foundation saying that with new prevention and treatments New Zealand could lead the way in achieving the goal of zero new infections (see separate story).
