Canada’s new government has vowed to take in gay refugees from Syria, despite restrictions on unaccompanied males. Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau The Liberal government has pledged to accept 25,000 Syrian refugees, the majority of which will be women, children and families, however restrictions on unaccompanied male refugees are in place security concerns. Facing persecution from both the Syrian government and ISIS, gay men will be an exception to this policy. Recently there has been a large number of allegedly gay men publicly executed in Syria at the hands of the terrorist group. Canada’s new Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, has been hailed as an LGBTI ally, pledging to introduce LGBTI friendly legislation that will end the ban on gay blood and organ donors, among other things. He is also the first Canadian Prime Minister to have marched in a pride parade.
