Fri 20 Nov 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Red paint was thrown at Correction Minister, Sam Lotu-liga’s electoral office on Wednesday night, in protest of Correction’s handling of transgender prisoners.   Photo: NZ Herald A note was also found glued to the Onehunga, Auckland, office window claiming Corrections Minister Sam Lotu-Iiga has “blood on his hands” because of the treatment of transgender prisoners in New Zealand and the impact of Corrections Department policies, notably the alleged rape of a trans inmate in Mt Eden prison. The note read: “This week is Transgender Week of Awareness, and transgender women in this country are systematically endangered by the placement policies of the Department of Corrections. "We know that transgender women will continue to be subjected to violence for as long as they are being placed in men's prisons. This is the direct and inevitable result of the Department of Corrections' policies. "For as long as Sam Lotu-Iiga refuses to take responsibility for these atrocities, there will be blood on his hands,"
