Tue 15 Oct 2002 In: New Zealand Daily News

New Zealand's first openly gay MP has sent a message of congratulation to Israel's first openly gay MP. On the eve of Professor Uzi Even's entry into the Knesset (Israel's parliament) MP and cabinet minister Chris Carter said he hoped Even would be “successful in advancing the status of gay and lesbian people in Israel.” Carter said in the message that he has “taken tremendous encouragement from the largely supportive public response” to his appointment as a Cabinet minister and told Even that he hopes the Israeli's election is similarly welcomed.
