Duncan Matthews, General Manager of RainbowYOUTH, says the organisation is thrilled to have been granted a $150,000 contract by the Ministry of Youth Development that will allow the them to continue providing support for LGBTI youth throughout New Zealand. Duncan Matthews and Aych McArdle from RainbowYOUTH “We are thrilled to receive the contract, specifically as this funding has never before been received by an LGBTI organisation. This contract sets a precedent for the level of support we can offer and the level at which we work”, says Matthews. He says while the specifics of the contract are still being worked out by the Ministry of Youth Development, the funding will be weighted towards the last part of the contract with the majority of the money being released in the third year. Matthews says the funding will allow RainbowYOUTH to continue their work nationally and says: “We were able to start the Tauranga and Whangarei groups because of specific funding we received to do that, this funding will go towards continuing to support those initiatives but also working with other people in other regions where there is interest and need.”
