NZ Quilts head to Gay games

Sat 12 Oct 2002 In: New Zealand Daily News

Sixteen New Zealand AIDS quilts will travel to Sydney to be part of an international quilt display at the Sydney Gay Games. NZ Quilt Project spokesperson Michael Bancroft says he and another volunteer will leave Auckland on November 1st to attend a three day AIDS Quilt workshop and display the quilts in Central Sydney. “This is a wonderful opportunity to bring some of the New Zealand quilts into an international gathering of quilts,” he says. A small number of quilts, all handmade as memorials to people lost to AIDS, were sent to the International HIV/AIDS Conference in Barcelona earlier in the year.
