Men's clothing store, Hallensteins, has caused a stir online after asking how their customers feel about same-sex marriage. An online customer survey aiming to understand “a little bit more about what makes you tick” asked customers to rank their opinion on various topics. One of the many topics customers were quizzed on was same-sex marriage and were asked to record their sentiment about the statement “Marriage should be between a man and a woman [sic].” The retailer has since removed the question following numerous complaints from customers on social media. Chris Pescott, the Chief Executive of Perceptive Research, the company behind the survey, has publicly apologised in a statement on Twitter, saying: "We didn't expect this question to cause offence.” "It is a common question, adheres to best practice and we have used it many times in the past." "Apologies if we unknowingly offended anyone, that wasn't our intention.” Other questions in the survey asked customers to rate which model they liked the look of and how they felt about the statement; “The is too much sex on TV nowadays.”
