A teacher has been asked to resign from his job at a school in Kansas after playing a viral anti-homophobia video to his class of 14 year olds. The teacher, Tom Leahy, played the short film ‘Love is all you need’ during his history lesson on tolerance. The viral film has been viewed more than 12 and a half million times on YouTube. Creator and Director K. Rocco Shields says; "Teen bulling and teen suicide based on someone's sexual preference is ridiculous - and this film turns the tables on modern society. What IF the shoe was on the other foot?" Leahy has been asked to step down following complaints from parents who say they are unhappy with the subject matter of the video. Despite having taught at the school since 1997, Leahy says there are people who now don’t want their children in his classroom. He told local newspaper the Wichita Eagle; “I didn’t want just a dorky little film… I wanted something that was important, something that was serious. So that’s the one I came up with. “I’m not saying what I did was very smart. It really wasn’t – but I’m a spur-of-the-moment kind of guy, and it seemed right at the time.” You can view the video "Love is all you need' below:
